Tao Jin

Assistant Professor
School of Library & Information Science
LSU College of Human Sciences & Education

What was your previous position and where?

I was a doctoral candidate and sessional lecturer in the School of Information Studies at McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

What brought you to LSU?

My goal after earning my Ph.D. was to start an academic career at a research-oriented university. I was attracted to LSU because of the opportunity to continue my research in information science. Many of my colleagues in this field are highly regarded scholars and researchers.

What is your research interest?

My research interest dwells upon competitive intelligence, knowledge management and information behavior in organizations.

What do you hope to accomplish at LSU?

I have two major priorities in my work at LSU. The first is to produce nationally recognized work related to my research topics. A second goal is, through my research and teaching, to promote people's awareness of information science in this digital age.

What do you enjoy most about LSU?

My working environment. I enjoy my immediate colleagues, who are always supportive and collegial. Also, I enjoy interacting with my students, both online and face-to-face.

What are your major accomplishments?

Recently I completed a research project funded by the Special Libraries Association. The project was to study the role of corporate information agencies in competitive intelligence practices. Publications regarding this project are coming out.
