What was your previous position and where?I was previously an assistant researcher at UCLA.What brought you to LSU?A tenure-track position in the School of Veterinary Medicine, or SVM. The commitment of the SVM to high quality biomedical research and its excellent support of new faculty inspired me to join the Comparative Biomedical Sciences Department. What is your research interest? My research interests include cancer biology and gene therapy strategies for cancer. What do you hope to accomplish at LSU?I hope to engage in collaborative work with biomedical researchers and develop novel strategies for treating cancer. What do you enjoy most about LSU?There are many collaborative opportunities on campus and in the surrounding area, and it is a very exciting place to be. There are many collaborative opportunities with LSUHSC-New Orleans and Shreveport in my research area, and we have been able to develop some very interesting research directions quite quickly due to the ongoing research connections. And besides the great scientific interactions, the campus is extremely beautiful and the sporting events are top-notch. The fans are very proud of the school and it has been an infectious feeling. What are your major accomplishments?I obtained my B.S. from the Federal University of Goias in Brazil and my Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
