LSU is an equal
LSU Today Flagship Faculty
What was your previous position and where?I came to LSU for the second time – I completed my B.S. in psychology here – in 2002 after finishing graduate school and a post-doctoral year at the University of Missouri in Columbia.
What brought you to LSU?The psychology department is very strong in many areas, including my own specialty, which is human memory. I was so pleased to be able to return to such a good department with excellent colleagues.
What is your research interest?I focus on working memory and attention in children and adults. I am especially interested in the negative effects of irrelevant sounds on cognition.
What do you hope to accomplish at LSU?It is my hope that I will be able to train students for their futures. I received such excellent training here as an undergraduate, and I would like to pass that on. I hope to accomplish this while continuing to develop my own research at the same time, so that the students are exposed to an active research program.
What do you enjoy most about LSU?To be honest, there are so many things that it is hard to list. The atmosphere of the campus cannot be replicated anywhere else. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and doing research here; it is a great place to work.
What are your major accomplishments?I was recently named a Fellow of Division 3 (Experimental Psychology) of the American Psychological Association. Additionally, I have two graduate students who have earned their Ph.D.ís under my direction, and both of them have academic jobs.
