LSU is an equal
LSU Today Flagship Faculty
What was your previous position and where?Immediately before coming to LSU, I was a professor at Texas State University in San Marcos for several years. Over the preceding 12 years, I worked as a consultant in Washington, DC, and for the state of Illinois.
What brought you to LSU?Our department was looking to add a senior level faculty member who could teach Louisiana geography and other courses. Since I was doing research on New Orleans, I fit the bill. Also, I had completed my B.A. and M.A. here, so I was very comfortable with returning to Baton Rouge.
What are your research interests?Currently I have two main research thrusts. Iím finishing a book on the long-term isses of water resources in the American South, and I have a project underway to study community resilience in the wake of the 2010 BP oil gusher in the Gulf of Mexico.
What do you hope to accomplish at LSU?I would like to inspire students to study geography, to work with my colleagues to strengthen our department and find ways to improve the general climate for higher education in Louisiana.
What do you enjoy most about LSU?I thoroughly enjoy winter break and summer when the campus is nearly empty.
What are your major accomplishments?I think each student that pulled up a poor grade to a good grade over the course of a semester is a major accomplishment, as are the graduate students I have advised who completed their advanced degrees.
