James C. and Cherie H. Flores University Professor of MBA Studies #1
Professor, Flores MBA Program
Professor, Department of Information Systems and Decision Sciences
E. J. Ourso College of Business

What was your previous position and where?

After I received a Ph.D. in management science from Krannert Graduate School of Management at Purdue University in 1990, I served as an assistant professor at Northeastern University in Boston for two years.

What brought you to LSU?

In 1992, I decided to come down to LSU, which offered me an opportunity to work with many outstanding scholars and teach bright and cheerful students in the Flores MBA program in the E. J. Ourso College of Business.

What are your research interests?

I am currently interested in modeling managerial decision problems in marketing, finance and operations management. My research papers in sequential decision analysis, quality management, warranty analysis, product pricing and optimal trading have been published in such journals as Operations Research, Decision Science, IIE Transactions, The American Statisticians, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Journal of the Operational Research Society, Journal of Quality Technology, and so on.

What do you hope to accomplish at LSU?

I hope to be known as a prolific researcher, an effective teacher and a good colleague. Currently, I am preoccupied with the successful development and launch of the online MBA program.

What do you enjoy most about LSU?

Being in a classroom with a group of motivated students and seeing the light go on as I help them find their way through the jungle. Beyond the classroom, seeing my former students establish themselves professionally and personally is another exciting part of my job as a professor.

What are your major accomplishments?

My hard work and dedication at LSU have been recognized with various awards from the Faculty Honor Roll nominated by students to the LSU Distinguished Faculty Award. I am particularly proud of being voted as the Professor of the Year by the MBA students 12 times. I have also received several best research paper awards, including the 2007 Best Theoretical/Empirical Research Paper Award from the Decision Science Institute.
