LSU is an equal
LSU Today Flagship Faculty
What was your previous position and where?I worked in a private economics consulting firm in Dallas, Texas, prior to joining LSU.
What brought you to LSU?The opportunities in the Division of Economic Development and Forecasting to work on economics research that would have a direct impact on Louisiana attracted me to LSU. In addition, joining the Department of Economics and returning to an academic research environment made the position all the more interesting. Of course, as natives of Louisiana, being near family and friends was a perk that my wife and I couldn't pass up.
What is your research interest?I have interests in an array of topics in applied economics including labor, public and environmental economics. In particular, I enjoy working on projects that bring rigorous economic analysis to bear on real world problems. The kinds of projects we do in the Division of Economic Development and Forecasting are especially fulfilling as they offer opportunities to use tools from economics to inform state policies with the ultimate goal of improving opportunities and quality of life for Louisiana residents.
What do you hope to accomplish at LSU?One of my goals at LSU is to help bolster the Division of Economic Development and Forecasting's position as the premier economics research group in Louisiana. In addition, through my own research and pursuing nationally competitive grants, I aim to help expand the division's prominence both regionally and nationally.
What do you enjoy most about LSU?While economics research is at the core of our work, many projects benefit greatly from collaboration with researchers across campus. The partnerships we have developed with faculty members in the economics department and from departments and schools across campus offer an invaluable resource that enhances our ability to answer difficult questions.
What are your major accomplishments?During my three and a half years at LSU, I have secured more than $1.5 million in grants as Principal Investigator, which has helped the research staff of the Division of Economic Development and Forecasting double in size and provided research experience and funding for graduate students in the Department of Economics.
