LSU is an equal
LSU Today Flagship Faculty
What brought you to LSU?The opportunity to start my career as independent researcher and academic instructor in a very dynamic and well-renown academic environment in LSUís civil and environmental engineering programs.
What is your research interest? My research is at the junction of two main branches of structural engineering: deterministic computational structural mechanics and probabilistic analysis of structural systems. My research aims at reaching a better understanding of the physical behavior of structures taking into account the stochastic nature of the structural and material properties and of the loading environment. This effort can lead to safer, more economic and more rational design procedures and contribute to make the world safer from natural and man-made hazards.
What do you hope to accomplish at LSU?I am dedicated to building an active research group on mechanics-based simulation and analysis of structural and infrastructural systems integrating advanced probabilistic methods. The goal of my research is providing the necessary tools for a rational, transparent and cost-effective decision-making process by owners and public agencies in ensuring the safety of civil engineering systems in an optimal sense for the entire society. I also hope to be of help in the preparation of and inspiration in the career decision for graduate and undergraduate students through my continuous effort and strong passion as a researcher and as an instructor.
