What was your previous position and where?I was a teaching assistant at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.What brought you to LSU?I joined the English department faculty at LSU in 1999.What is your research interest?I am a creative writer, and have both a novel and full-length play in progress. All of my creative work is set in Louisiana. What do you hope to accomplish at LSU?I hope to instill confidence in my student writers and help them find their distinct writing voices. Also, I hope to continue to form meaningful professional relationships with scholars and creative writers. What do you enjoy most about LSU?The art! I am a regular patron of the pottery sale, and love to see the MFA thesis shows every spring. Much of the art I have added to my personal collection was created by LSU students. I also enjoy seeing the murals in Allen Hall every day when I'm on my way to teach. What are your major accomplishments?I'm most proud of having one of my short stories accepted for publication in The Southern Review and, more recently, editing the new fiction anthology "Best of LSU Fiction," which was based on a sophomore literature class created by my co-editor, Judy Kahn, when she was teaching in the English department. The book is a collection of some of the greatest American authors, all of whom have association with this university.
