Bird Collection LSU Museum of Natural Science to Play Major Role in Creation of "Genome Zoo"
In the most comprehensive study of animal evolution ever attempted, an international consortium of scientists plan to assemble a genomic zoo - a collection of DNA sequences for 10,000 vertebrate species, approximately one for every vertebrate genus. And thanks to its Museum of Natural Science and its collection of genetic resources, LSU is poised to play a major role in this record-breaking project. More >>

Poetry Slam Students, Community Express Themselves in Poetry Slam
LSU recently held its annual Poetry Slam, hosted by the Student Activities Board, in the Student Union's Live Oak Lounge. Slam poetry is a form of spoken word that is performed at a competitive event. There are no true rules to a poetry slam, although there are time restraints and judges. More >>

HRM accepting nominations for Spring 2010 LEAD...Emerge
HRM Training and Development is currently accepting nominations for the Spring 2010 LEAD...Emerge program. LEAD...Emerge is LSU's leadership development program for new supervisors, candidates for promotion to a supervisory position or current supervisors desiring professional and personal development. Deans, directors and department chairs may nominate either professional or classified employees by completing a nomination form online. The deadline to submit nominations for the Spring 2010 class is Friday, Dec. 4. To access the nomination forms, visit the HRM Training and Development Web site or contact Yvette Marsh by phone at 578-8333 or by e-mail at ymarsh@lsu.edu.

Groovin' International Style
The International Student Association, in cooperation with the International Cultural Center, announces its biggest event for the fall semester. Groovin' International Style will be held today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the International Cultural Center. This event will feature singing, dancing and other performances from all five continents. Complimentary gourmet food and drinks will be provided. This event is also the exciting closure of LSU 2009-10 "International Education Week," an annual program promoted throughout the United States. All students, faculty and staff members are welcome to attend. The International Student Association guarantee a cultural night with friends from all over the world.

Pet Photos with Santa Paws at LSU Veterinary School
Pets Believe Too! Bring your pet - any pet - to meet Santa Paws! Pets can have their picture taken with Santa Paws on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine on Skip Bertman Drive. This annual event is sponsored by the Auxiliary to the Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association and helps fund scholarships for veterinary school students. A variety of photo packages are available. The family is welcome to pose with Santa Paws in the picture. For more information, contact the School of Veterinary Medicine at (225) 578-9900.

Staff Senate 2009 Holiday Decorating Contest
The Staff Senate Scholarship Committee invites faculty and staff members to participate in the 2009 Holiday Decorating Contest. The theme this year is "We're Dreaming of a Green Christmas." There are four categories for entries: door, office entrance, tree and bulletin board. The entry deadline is Dec. 7 and judging will take place on Dec. 14. All entries must be constructed using recyclable materials. First and second place ribbons will be awarded in each category and one "Best in Show" winner will be chosen. Submissions will be judged on creativity, appearance and theme adaptation. For more information, please contact Kristie Galy in the College of Education.

Staff Senate Celebrates Holiday on Campus on Dec. 1
The LSU Staff Senate will host the 20th annual Holiday on Campus on Tuesday, Dec. 1, from 6 - 8 p.m. in the University Recreation Center, or UREC. Santa invites the children of LSU students, staff and faculty to come enjoy holiday music, refreshments and plenty of fun activities. UREC will provide a rock climbing wall room and games. Please bring a new unwrapped toy for the U.S. Marine Corps "Toys for Tots" program and a non-perishable food item for the Baton Rouge Food Bank. LSU Sesquicentennial Ornament Now On Sale
In 2010, LSU celebrates its 150th anniversary, or sesquicentennial. This inaugural ornament, featuring the Memorial Tower, helps commemorate this milestone. Every fall LSU will introduce a new ornament creating a collectable series. All of the proceeds will be directed to the new Campus Beautification Fund. The LSU Sesquicentennial ornament can be purchased for $20 online at www.LSUornament.com, or by completing a downloadable form also available at www.LSUornament.com and mailing the completed form and payment to the LSU Foundation.
