William Price Fox’s bountiful gifts for caricature and local color have earned him favorable comparisons to Mark Twain. His third novel, Dixiana Moon, is the picaresque account of a young, irrepressible New York salesman, Joe Mahaffey, who flees his business problems by joining forces with fast-talking southern con man Buck Brody in his latest scheme: the Jubilee Crusade and Famous Life of Christ Show, a combination gospel freak show and traveling circus starring Bible Belt messiah Arlo Waters. It’s a story of conversion from one way of life to another and from one place to a new one, and its madcap pace in pursuit of the American dream continues all the way down the Dixiana Highway.
William Price Fox took turns as a bellhop, golf caddy, schoolteacher, and salesman before settling into the writing life. He is the author of nine books of fiction, including Southern Fried, Ruby Red, and Lunatic Wind; over one hundred stories and articles; and the screenplay for 108 Stitches. He teaches creative writing at the University of South Carolina in his native Columbia.
