About Us
Founded in New Orleans in 1934, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana is the oldest and largest Louisiana-based health insurance company. We are a not-for-profit, fully taxed mutual insurer, owned by policyholders and governed by a local Board of Directors and are an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. We provide group and individual health insurance plans, life and disability insurance, group voluntary products and administrative services to our more than 1.2 million members. Our Commitment to the Community
As a committed community partner, Blue Cross supports more than 200 charitable organizations across Louisiana through the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation. We’ve recognized more than 100 individuals who have done outstanding volunteer work on behalf of Louisiana children and have awarded more than $1 million in grants to the honorees’ charities through our annual statewide recognition program, the Angel Award. In addition, we contribute nearly $2 million annually in financial aid to various non-profit organizations throughout the state that contribute to health, education and the overall quality of life in our communities.
Our Commitment to Your Health
For more than 75 years, we have been a leader in promoting better health for Louisianians of all ages. One example is our Your Health. Our Commitment. initiative, which promotes our more than 40 wellness tools and services to our members. We also encourage our customers to take an active role in managing their health by offering them a wealth of wellness tools and resources through our My Health Commitment wellness program. Our commitment to health extends to the entire state in the form of the Louisiana 2 Step campaign, designed to combat obesity by promoting healthier lifestyle choices. Launched in 2007, the Louisiana 2 Step encourages all residents to take two small daily steps to better health: eat right and move more.
