Save the Date: LSU homecoming Week Scheduled for Nov. 7-14

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 13, 2010

BATON ROUGE – Homecoming is an annual tradition at LSU, but this year, the university is also marking a significant milestone – its sesquicentennial, or 150th, anniversary.

As part of that commemoration, LSU has planned a week of spirited events Nov. 7-14 that invites the LSU community as well as the general public to reflect on the university’s past, celebrate the present and commit to a future of excellence.

Among the many Homecoming Week events are a special kickoff ceremony on Monday, Nov. 8, at the Memorial Tower; a Homecoming Pep Rally and Comedy Show on Thursday, Nov. 11; and the annual Homecoming Parade on Saturday, Nov. 13, from noon to 1:30 p.m. through the LSU campus. That night, the LSU Tiger football team will host the University of Louisiana at Monroe Warhawks at 7 p.m. in Tiger Stadium. The Homecoming Court will be presented at halftime, followed by the announcement of the Homecoming Queen and King. For a full listing of LSU Homecoming Week activities, visit www.homecoming.lsu.edu.

LSU’s Parent and Family Programs, a branch of the university’s Division of Student Life, will also host its annual Family Weekend event Nov. 12-14. Family Weekend events are open to families of all current students. Registration is required for Family Weekend events, and is open through Friday, Oct. 29. To learn more about LSU Family Weekend, including how to register, visit www.lsu.edu/lsufamily and click on “Parent and Family Events.”

LSU Day, an interactive day of numerous events and programs that showcases the impact Louisiana’s flagship university has on the community, state and beyond, will take place Saturday, Nov. 13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Events will be held in three areas of campus – the Field of Excellence, located at the University Recreation Complex on South Campus Drive near the LSU lakes; the South Campus Promenade, along South Campus Drive west of Highland Road; and the Union Square, located in and around the Student Union. To view a complete listing of LSU Day events and information, visit www.lsuday.com.

Also being held Nov. 10-13 in downtown Baton Rouge is the Red Stick International Animation Festival, an annual event sponsored by the LSU Center for Computation & Technology that highlights the links among art, science and technology. For more information on the Red Stick Animation Festival, including how to purchase tickets to festival events, visit www.redstickfestival.org.

LSU Homecoming Week and LSU Day are two of several signature activities taking place throughout 2010 as part of the university’s Sesquicentennial Celebration. Sesquicentennial-related events throughout the year are made possible thanks to generous donations to the university by the following sponsors: Campus Federal Credit Union, Baton Rouge Coca-Cola Bottling Company, AT&T, Raising Cane’s, ExxonMobil, Entergy and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana.
