Manatees

Colored drawing of a manatee.Did you know that manatees have been spotted in Louisiana? Manatees have been found in many waterways in south Louisiana including the Amite River and Lake Calcasieu. The warm waters and abundance of aquatic vegetation have attracted migrating manatees to Louisiana waters. Scientists say that because of loss of habitat in Florida some manatees are migrating further from Florida waters.
