A Message from the Director

Bienvenue/Bienvenidos/Welcome!

Welcome to the homepage of the Program in Louisiana and Caribbean Studies at Louisiana State University. Formally launched in Fall 2003, our initiative brings together colleagues from disparate fields to consider interdisciplinary approaches to Louisiana, regional, and Caribbean/hemispheric issues. Through our series of international conferences, noted guest speakers, brown-bag lunches, and innovative course offerings, we explore the concept of a wider Caribbean that places the islands in a sea-region bounded by the coastal states of the American South, Mexico, Central and South America.

We thank you for your interest in our Program, and hope to see you at this year’s brownbag luncheons and annual conference, which will be advertised here in the near future. Please contact us with your ideas and comments and consider making a donation to our development fund. We welcome visits from friends and colleagues throughout the year in our offices on the second floor of Allen Hall. Come see us and “pass a good time” in this part of the Caribbean world.

Cordially,

John Lowe
