International Student Service ChargeLSU

International students holding the F-1 and J-1 visa status are charged the International Student Service Charge each semester of course registration. The International Student Service Charge is $50 per semester (fall, spring and summer), and F-1/J-1 student will see this charge on the fee bills at initial registration or during the second billing cycle of the semester. The timing of the charge does not indicate a problem with a student’s non-immigrant status.

Note: The International Student Service Charge has the LSU fee bill label: IS ISSC Intl Status Compliance and is $50 per semester regardless of the number of credit hours enrolled. (There is no International Student Service Charge for intersession or degree-only enrollments.)

The mandatory International Student Service Charge is included in the estimated expenses as well as on the Certificate of Eligibility.

The revenue from the International Student Service Charge maintains the University’s compliance with U.S. government requirements for hosting and servicing international students. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) created the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), which electronically monitors the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) database. It is imperative that LSU have the ability to efficiently and effectively populate and maintain the data in the SEVIS system in order to facilitate the security clearances and provide necessary services for international students, researchers and graduate assistants at LSU.
