Domestic Exchanges through the NSE Program

The National Student Exchange (NSE) program is one of the best-kept secrets on LSU's campus. NSE provides opportunities for LSU undergraduates to study for up to one calendar year at another NSE member school. There are over 170 different NSE colleges and universities to choose from in 48 states, 7 Canadian provinces, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, and Guam.

NSE participants have found their exchanges culturally enriching and academically rewarding—one of the most significant experiences of their undergraduate education. Since its founding in 1968, more than 100,000 students have had the opportunity to experience life from a different point of view with NSE.

LSU joined NSE in 1990 and has placed almost 1,000 students at partner campuses. From cold to warm, plains to mountains, and concrete to beach, we are sure that you can find a campus with the right combination of academics, extracurricular activities, facilities, and environment to meet your needs and interests.

NSE Eligibility

Participation is a privilege. As an NSE participant, you are an LSU ambassador at your host institution. We want you to show your Tiger pride!

All of the following requirements must be met to be considered eligible for NSE:

  • Full-time student
  • Minimum GPA: 2.5 (some schools require higher)
  • Good academic standing (no academic holds or probation)
  • 24 LSU credits by the time of exchange (cannot go during freshman year)
  • No incomplete grades
  • No disciplinary or probationary status on or off campus (academic, conduct, legal)
  • No outstanding financial obligations
  • Willingness to explore the US and/or Canada
  • Desire to have a great time!

Note: these requirements must be met at the time of application and exchange. If your GPA for the term preceding exchange falls below a 2.5, your exchange may be cancelled by LSU, even though your overall GPA remains at a cumulative 2.5 or greater.
