Planning a ProgramHonors in Cuba

Summer or Intersession Program

We're always looking for LSU faculty to direct summer and intersession study abroad programs. Whether this is your first time working with study abroad, you’ve taught on a program and now think you'd like to direct, or you've been directing study abroad programs for years, we would love to work with you.

The first step to creating a summer/intersession study abroad program is to submit a program proposal. Every proposal will need a Program Proposal and at least one Course Proposal form:

In addition to the program proposal form, each proposal will need a completed budget template and course syllabi for all courses to be taught on the program:

Submitting a proposal for the first-time can seem overwhelming, which is why APA has developed a Directors’ Handbook for all short-term program Directors and a First Time Directors’ Companion to assist those who have never served as a Program Director.

The First Time Directors’ Companion has step-by-step directions on how to fill out the program proposal and the program budget (pages 9-12). In addition, you can also download the instruction sheet, which will give you a brief overview of what is needed in a completed proposal packet.

Planning a Short-Term Excursion or Class Field Trip

You can also propose a program that is taught in conjunction with a course on LSU's campus (usually during fall or spring break):

Fall/spring break proposals are due by the last day of semester preceding the trip, at the latest. This is to ensure that students can be charged prior to the beginning of classes. The best trips/proposals are planned well ahead of this deadline.

In addition to the program proposal form, each proposal will need a completed budget template and course syllabi for all courses to be taught on the program:

APA staff are here to help you with the development and implementation of your program. If you're not sure of where you want to go or how to get started, give us a call at 225-578-6801 (Phone or Skype), or email one of our staff members. The staff in APA who work with short-term programs are:

Dr. Harald Leder, Director

Jill Clemmons, Assistant Director

Marissa Baham, Coordinator
