Spanish Program Scholarships

James M. Smith, Jr. Endowed Scholarship in Romance Languages

The application deadline is April 21, 2017

Eligibility Requirements

  • full time undergraduate student at Louisiana State University & Agricultural and Mechanical College 
  • majoring in a Romance language (French, Spanish, Italian)
  • an overall LSU GPA of at least 3.00
  • at least a 3.5 GPA in the major

Selection

The recipient will be selected by the faculty or appropriate committee in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures and the Department of French & Italian. 

Amount of Scholarship

  • Up to $1700 per academic year to be credited to the student’s account for the payment of tuition
  • One-half of the award for the fall semester and one-half of the award for the spring semester

Retention of Scholarship

Upon recommendation of the faculty, a recipient may retain this scholarship for additional years. The scholarship shall terminate when the recipient receives the undergraduate degree

Withdrawal of Scholarship

The scholarship shall be withdrawn for any of the following reasons:

  • being placed on disciplinary probation
  • failing to maintain the required GPA
  • resigning or “dropping out” of the university
  • failure to maintain full time status majoring in a Romance language

Corinne L. Saucier Endowed Scholarship in Romance Languages

Eligibility Requirements

  • full time undergraduate student at LSU
  • full time graduating senior majoring in Spanish or French at LSU
  • an overall LSU GPA of at least 3.00
  • at least a 3.5 GPA in the major

Purpose of Scholarship

For advanced study or research at LSU or in a foreign country in which either of these languages is spoken. Preference will be given to students who plan to enter the teaching profession. The Corinne L. Saucier Scholarship is awarded to LSU full-time graduating senior students who have demonstrated superior academic achievement and excellence in Spanish or French.

Amount of Scholarship

Up to $1500 per academic year to be credited to the student’s account

Selection

The recipient will be selected by the faculty or appropriate committee in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures and the Department of French

Retention of Scholarship

The scholarship may be retained for two years

Withdrawal of Scholarship

The scholarship shall be withdrawn for any of the following reasons:

  • being placed on disciplinary or academic probation
  • failure to maintain at least a 3.5 GPA in advanced study
  • resigning or “dropping out” of the university
  • failure to maintain full time status in advanced study in Spanish or French
