Career and Technical Education

General Information

This area of emphasis is for prospective students interested in pursuing undergraduate and graduate studies in career and technical education. Our program trains career and technical professionals to perform at all levels from grades 6-12 through the university level. Students in this concentration may wish to  specialize in one of the following areas:

  • Career & Technical Teacher Education
  • Family & Consumer Sciences Education
  • Business Education (at all levels - university,  community college, technical school, proprietary school, high school, and middle school)
  • Communication Colleges
  • Technical College and Schools
  • Marketing Education
  • Technology Education
  • Corporate Training

Course content and teaching methods used in graduate courses are designed to assist students in the development of strong professional knowledge and skills. Graduates will be prepared to identify and analyze professional problems and initiate actions plans to solve those problems.  Graduate students are encouraged to custom design their degree program in consultation with their graduate advisor. Students may build unique areas of expertise into their degree program, including areas such as:

  • Program Evaluation
  • Program Planning
  • Needs Assessment
  • Learner-Centered Instructional Design
  • Learner Assessment
  • Research Design
  • Technological Change
  • Many Other Possibilities

The faculty are very active in their field on a national and international basis and maintain continuous contact with other professionals in the field.
