Two for the Show
LSU salutes our men’s basketball team for their first appearance in the NCAA Final Four since 1986 and our women’s basketball team for their third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Final Four. This marks only the seventh time in college basketball that both a men’s and women’s team from the same university have reached their respective tournaments’ Final Fours in the same season.
It took a great gameplan for LSU’s Men’s and Women’s Basketball programs to advance to the 2006 NCAA Final Four in their respective tournaments. At LSU, we apply those same rigorous planning principles to our academics.
LSU 2010, our National Flagship Agenda, maps out LSU’s plan to achieve national prominence by the year 2010. This goal is accomplished, in part, by adding more faculty, strengthening our technology infrastructure, and recruiting the brightest students.
Those high achieving scholars include LSU’s student athletes, the young men and women who work hard to represent the University in their respective sports. In addition to their determination on the basketball court, the LSU Tigers and Lady Tigers, like their University peers, strive to be the best in the most important arena of all - the classroom.
We commend the follow-through and resolve they have displayed on the court and in their academic careers:
Southeastern Conference Player (SEC) of the Year Glen Davis was one of four Tigers to be named to the 2006 SEC Honor Roll. Davis was joined by teammates Garrett Temple, Darnell Lazare, and Darrel Mitchell. Student athletes earn this distinction by maintaining a 3.0 grade point average.
Lady Tigers RaShonta LeBlanc, Ashley Thomas, Erica White, and Khalilah Mitchell were also named to the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll.
SEC Player of the Year and 2006 Naismith National Player of the Year finalist Seimone Augustus graduated from LSU in three years with a degree in general studies. She is currently working on a second degree in business administration.
Florence Williams also graduated from LSU in four years with a degree in general studies.
