Merging Technology and Business

Today’s economy is more competitive than ever before. Recent technological advances have allowed businesses to “go global” faster than their predecessors could have ever imagined. But how does it all happen, and who follows the trends to make sure the average consumers and business owners are getting the most for their money?

The Department of Information Systems & Decision Sciences (ISDS), housed in the LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business Administration, explores the relationships between business and computer science. Through analysis and research, ISDS experts can help organizations extract the most from the latest trends in information technology (IT).

The ISDS program at LSU directly addresses the challenges of information control and manufacturing production to build more cost-effective and efficent businesses. The curriculum involves management information systems (MIS), which focus on the analysis, design, and implementation of computer-based information systems to support the operations and management functions of an organization.

Students have opportunities to participate in national and international research endeavors through the Center for Virtual Organization & Commerce (CVOC), while also gaining a well-rounded education encompassing the study of many useful disciplines. LSU’s Department of ISDS—with its range and depth of skills in computer science, production management, quantitative analysis, and business administration—also promotes the real-world experience of working in teams using computer and analytical tools to tackle a variety of important business problems.
