LSU Alumna in High Places LSU alumna Cassandra M. Chandler is the highest ranking African-American woman in the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and, as assistant director for training, she holds the third-highest position in the FBI. After pursuing degrees in English and in journalism, Chandler graduated from LSU in 1979. She began her career as a television anchor, reporter, and talk show host for WVLA-TV in Baton Rouge. She later earned a Juris Doctorate from Loyola University School of Law in New Orleans. Chandler began her FBI career as a special agent in 1985. She has served in the FBI’s New Orleans, Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco field offices. Since April 2000, Chandler served as section chief in the Investigative Services Division at FBI headquarters, overseeing the FBI’s analytical program for matters of criminal and domestic terrorism. In February 2001, she was appointed assistant director for all training programs for new employees and the continuing education for all FBI employees. In March of this year, Chandler was selected for induction into the LSU Manship School of Mass Communication’s Hall of Fame for her outstanding professional record, her demonstrated service to her profession, and her interest and dedication to the school.
