The LSU War Memorial
The LSU War Memorial is dedicated to the memory of those LSU alumni,
faculty, staff, and students who served in American wars and conflicts
from World War II through the present. More than 640 names of those killed
or listed as missing in action are carved into the memorials granite
walls. The War Memorial is strategically situated in front of the LSU
Memorial Tower and on the LSU Parade Ground, which derives its name from
the days when LSU was a military academy and cadets rehearsed military
drills on the lawn. Today, the Parade Ground, shaped in a half-circle,
is used for such formal and informal gatherings as Homecoming celebrations,
dedication ceremonies, music festivals, studying, and frisbee games.
