Summers named Louisiana Professor of the Year
Human Ecology Professor Teresa
Summers has been named the 2001 Louisiana Professor of the Year by the
Carnegie Foundation for the
Advancement of Teaching and the Council
for the Advancement and Support of Education®. The U.S. Professor
of the Year program, recognizing the most outstanding undergraduate instructors
in the nation, is considered one of the most prestigious faculty awards.
This marks the third consecutive year an LSU professor has won the award.
Summers was one of six faculty members nominated from Louisiana, and
one of 384 nominated by colleges and universities throughout the country.
This year the program recognized winners in 45 states and the District
of Columbia, as well as four national winners.
Summers holds the Cliff and Nancy Spanier Alumni Professorship at LSU
and served as the textiles, apparel design, and merchandising division
head of the LSU School of Human Ecology from 19942001. She said
her goal in working with students is to provide them with the information
and desire to learn that will prepare them for a future of constant change
and adaptation.

- 2000 ISIAH M. WARNER, LSU Boyd Professor and Vice Chancellor
for Strategic Initiatives. WARNER
also holds the Philip W. West Chair in Air Quality/Environmental Analytical
Chemistry.
- 1999 SU-SENG PANG, LSU Associate Vice Chancellor for Strategic
Initiatives. PANG is also the Jack Holmes Professor of Engineering.
- 1990 THOMAS D. BIDNER, LSU Meryal Newsom Annison Memorial Endowed
Professor.
- 1988 ROBERT A. GODKE, LSU Boyd professor.
