Being a part of Harambeé was an exciting
experience for me as well as my fellow freshmen. The organizational
fair and the program did an excellent job of showcasing the many
culturally specific groups on campus, what they are all about, and
how to become a member. Harambeé is more than a simple coming
together: it is a night of celebrating black heritage, black
culture, societal progression, and the wealth of possibilities for
the future.

Office of Multicultural Affairs
In the spirit of an inclusive educational excellence, the Office
of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) promotes a supportive and friendly
environment that is welcoming and attractive to all persons regardless
of race, ethnicity, nationality, socioeconomic status, gender/gender identity,
religious conviction, sexual orientation, or disability status. OMA is
responsible for organizational support services such as the Black Student
Union, Spectrum Alliance, the Safe Space Campaign, and the Multicultural
Leadership Cabinet. Students enjoy diversity at events including Harambeé,
the MLK Celebration, and Springfest. OMA provides cross-cultural and diversity-awareness
training seminars to all students and serves as a clearinghouse for important
information. Also, Genesis Mentoring and Tutoring, a combined effort with
the Center for Academic Success, offers academic counseling and a free
tutorial service.
