The Frey Computing Services
Center
The Frey Computing Services Center,
a 50,000-square-foot, three-story building, is home to state-of-the-art
computing facilities and the Office of Computing Services. Housed within
its walls are the team members who:
- develop and maintain the award-winning PAWS
portal
- deploy and manage a 75-mile fiber-optic network
- support 209,000 library patrons state-wide
- assist scientists around the state with innovative, computer-intensive
research problems
- develop and support course management software used by 1,500 classes
each semester.
The building is named in memory of "Mr. LSU," Major Fred C.
Frey (18911980). Frey was a student, an athlete, a teacher, a counselor,
and a friend "who loved and served LSU so well for such a long time."
In 1996, the Computing Services Center won the Rose Award for architectural
design excellence.
