Treating Animals The LSU School of Veterinary Medicine offers the largest concentration of board-certified animal specialists in the state. Radiologists, cardiologists, oncologists, reproduction specialists, dermatologists, ophthalmologists, anesthesiologists, surgeons, and avian and bovine specialists are on call to meet every animal emergency in Louisiana. They treat animals ranging from family pets to the campus mascot, a Bengal tiger named Mike. The schools teaching hospital treats more than 27,000 animals a year, but expects an even sharper increase in case load when its three new facilitiesthe Cancer Treatment Center, the Wildlife Hospital of Louisiana, and the Equine Intensive Care Unitare opened.
