Supporting Undergraduate Research LSU is one of the most generous universities in the country for supporting undergraduate research and education in engineering and the sciences. To attract top students, award-winning mechanical engineering professor Su-Seng Pang and Minority Engineering Program coordinator Cheryle Peters spearheaded several research and education programs supported by five simultaneous National Science Foundation grants. The $1.09 million in grants provides financial support, field trips, and hands-on experience in laboratories for more than 60 exceptional students per year in engineering, computer science, mathematics, and statistics. In return, recipients tutor local schoolchildren in math and science, helping to prepare the next generation of LSU scholars. Last updated January 2002
