LSU's premier faculty are changing the world by making important contributions to research and scholarship. To reward outstanding faculty for their accomplishments, in 2001 LSU (including the Hebert Law Center and the Pennington Biomedical Research Center) endowed 115 new professorships and six new endowed chairs. The recipients are top caliber professors who are bringing international renown to LSU's intellectual endeavors. More important, these leading scholars are inspiring LSU students to perform academically beyond their greatest expectations. The new endowed professorships and chairs have been made possible by the successful LSU Capital Campaign, which surpassed its fundraising goal by $105 million, and by state matching funds provided by the Louisiana Board of Regents. LSU's total endowment now includes 265 endowed professorships and 33 endowed chairs. New chairs funded as part of the ceremonies on August 24, 2001, include the following:
