Respecting Sea and Coast
Louisiana has a remarkable ecological heritage, and teaching our children
to respect this legacy is an important mission of the Louisiana Sea Grant
College Program, administered by LSU. Each year Louisiana Sea
Grant and LSU sponsor Ocean
Commotion, a one-day exhibition celebrating our precious coastal and
aquatic resources. More than 3,500 area K–8 students attend this
free campus event and experience the 60-plus interactive exhibits provided
by LSU researchers and public and private organizations. Ocean Commotion
teaches children about the resources of the sea and coast—the aquatic
animals, plants, and minerals—and encourages them to become good
stewards of Louisiana’s unique ecology.
