Performing Arts

Swine Palace Productions (SPP)was incorporated February 13, 1992, under the guidance of founding Artistic Director Barry Kyle, and with the support of Louisiana State University's Department of Theatre.

Structured as the professional arm of LSU Theatre, Swine Palace is becoming a theatre of regional and national significance in the Gulf corridor between Texas and Alabama.

Swine Palace's history was driven by the idea of creating a populist theatre for Louisiana. The agricultural pavilion on the LSU campus was identified in 1992 as the future home of the company, and a capital campaign to raise $3.5 million for the renovation of the structure was undertaken. The new 500-seat arena theatre opened during the 1999-2000 season, funded by the State of Louisiana and a generous grant from the Reilly family of Baton Rouge, for whom it was named. The Reilly Theatre, designed to maintain the integrity of its earthy origins, features a wooden ceiling, cathedral-like glass windows, and cement risers.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this season, Swine Palace Productions has achieved a reputation for excellence. SPP continues to present substantive works that reflect the culture of Louisiana and fresh adaptations of American and European classics.
