Mike the Tiger

One of the most important symbols of LSU's school spirit is Mike V, the Royal Bengal tiger mascot. Mike V, the newest tiger mascot, began his reign on April 30, 1990. Before entering Tiger Stadium, Mike's cage on wheels is parked next to the opponent's locker room in the southeast end of the stadium. Opposing players must walk past Mike's cage to reach their locker room. Tradition dictates that for every growl elicited by Mike before a football game, the Tigers will score a touchdown that night.

Plans are under way to build a new home for Mike. The Tiger Athletic Foundation, along with campus student organizations, has begun the "I Like Mike" Campaign to raise money for the project. Mike's new home will be about three times the size of his current home and will have a more naturalistic setting. (Note: For updates on the progress of the new habitat visit www.mikethetiger.com.)
