Creating Public Spaces The LSU School of Landscape Architecture is one of the most respected landscape architecture programs in the nation, and its graduates are working on every continent in the world. Landscape architects create environments that meet complex social needs, are ecologically sound, and aesthetically pleasing. LSU's students, faculty, and graduates have helped establish ecotourism parks in El Salvador, restore important cultural landmarks in Mexico, and create children's playgrounds in war-torn Bosnia. Professor Sadik Artunc is working with the administration of Turkey to improve water quality in Istanbul, a city of 750,000 residents. His solutions include reforestation and wetland planting, and turning the Elmali Dam area into a protected public park. Last updated January 2002
