Truth or Dare

The ultimate performance experiment: for one night only and for six continuous hours, performers engage in a playful game of truth or dare. Audience members may come and go as they please, but won’t know what happens unless they make it through the duration.

The Life and Times of King Kong

A celebration and investigation of the greatest cinematic icon of all time: King Kong, the eighth wonder of the world! On the eve of the 75th anniversary of the original film’s debut, the HopKins Black Box presents its very own version of the mythic tale.

An Unfortunate Series of Happenings
Mondays in November (5, 12, 19, 26) at 6:00 pm
Directed by Samuel Sloan
Artist Allan Kaprow first coined the term happening in 1957. Fifty years later, director Samuel Sloan re-imagines how audience and context work to create three happenings on LSU’s campus. The happenings culminate on the final Monday with an audience discussion of just what took place.

The Undergraduate Showcase

The Patti Pace Performance Festival

The HopKins Black Box hosts the seventh annual Patti Pace Performance Festival, in which we highlight, share, and celebrate the diverse performance work created in performance studies programs across the nation.

Agridulce
Wednesday through Saturday, February 13-16 at 7:30 pm

Calling upon the traditions of magical realism, Agridulce plays in the borderlands of "live" and mediatized performance. Born of broken glass, the hearts of blue agave plants, and childhood games, the performance spins through memories—both "real" and imagined, ripe and rotten—in its engagement with los Días de los Muertos and shared family recipes.

Through an exploration of roads, coordinates, music, letters, and histories, this solo performance proposes cartography as a “map” for understanding lived experience.

Bauhaus places: pliable spaces, bodily traces

This playful performance revisits the innovations of the Bauhaus Stage Workshop through reconstructions, adaptations, and transformations of their dances, costumes, masks, and puppets.

Undergraduate Showcase

We close our season with a celebration of the work of our amazing students.

Admission to events in the HopKins Black Box is by a suggested donation of $3 for showcases, $5 for shows, and $7 for guest artist performances. Guest lectures are free.
