Student Employment

Federal Work Study (based on financial need)

Work study consists of working an on-campus job. If you are interested in community service, the setting/site may be off campus. The student must have financial need as determined by the FAFSA in order to be offered Work study. LSU awards Work study in date order according to when the student was awarded a financial aid package.

The student must be full-time and not be on academic probation (have a cumulative 2.0 gpa).

  • May earn $500-$2,000 per year to assist with your educational expenses.
  • Awarded summer, fall, and/or spring.
  • Limited funding.
  • Paid bi-monthly for hours actually worked.
  • Variety of jobs available:

-       Community Service

-       Data Entry

-       Secretarial Assistant

-       Reading Tutor

-       Research Assistant

-       Receptionist

-       Audio-Visual Technician

-       Laboratory Technician

Campus Jobs (not based on financial need)

If you wish to work on campus but do not qualify for the work-study program, you can seek student employment opportunities by directly contacting the various departments on campus. To hold a campus job, you must be enrolled as a full-time student and you must be in good academic standing.

Career Services’ assists students in locating employment throughout the year. For information about finding on- or off-campus positions, please contact Career Services.

Chancellor’s Student Aid

If a student is awarded one of our major scholarships as an incoming freshman, he is also given the opportunity to participate in the Chancellor’s Student Aid program, which allows the student to work in an on-campus job.

  • May earn up to $1550 per year
  • Can work only fall and spring
  • Paid bi-monthly for hours actually worked
  • Is interchangeable; student may choose to participate one semester on and on semester off, etc.

Job Transfers

We begin job transfers right before the semester begins. You will be notified when this accurs, and you will notice an influx of students requesting a job transfer. The student must come into the office to complete the transfer. If a student comes into the office for a job transfer, check to see if Laurie is available. If she is not available, you may request the assistance of a counselor.

Policy Statement 33 governs the employment of all students on the LSU campus; regardless of funding source.
