Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College (LSU) seeks an Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost who possesses a global and intellectual perspective, personal integrity, and the ability to inspire and lead a highly motivated faculty and academic community. The Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost should be able to articulate the vision that guides the University and to demonstrate an unambiguous and relentless commitment to excellence and diversity in all its forms. The Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost will be dedicated to LSU, a student-centered, faculty- and staff-supportive, research-intensive, diverse university with a continuous commitment to public service. The individual will support and promote all of the broad disciplinary areas in the University’s academic, research, and service programs, as well as interdisciplinary learning and discovery.
LSU is Louisiana’s flagship public research university and one of America’s premier institutions. The University’s main campus occupies 2,000 acres in a culturally rich and distinctive region, bordering the Mississippi River in the state capital, Baton Rouge, 80 miles from New Orleans. LSU’s academic programs include undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees, including 74 bachelors, 70 master's, and 45 doctoral degree programs. LSU carries the Carnegie designation of “Research University – very high research activity” and is one of only 21 universities nationwide holding land-grant, sea-grant and space-grant status. The university is on an upward trajectory, being ranked in the first tier for “Best National Universities” in U.S. News & World Report’s editions of America’s Best Colleges for the fourth straight year. Graduation rates are the highest in LSU history at 60.5 percent and the average ACT score for incoming freshmen last fall was the highest ever at 25.4. The Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost reports directly to the Chancellor and serves as the chief academic and operating officer of the university. The Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost works closely with the Chancellor on both internal and external matters, guiding campus colleagues on strategic planning, academic initiatives, budgetary matters, and policy development. The Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost serves in the Chancellor’s stead when he is unavailable.
Applicants and nominees must hold a terminal degree or equivalent and qualify for a tenure appointment in one of the academic units of the University. Applicants must exhibit a distinguished record of academic achievement and administrative experience, including proven leadership and innovation regarding major issues, challenges, and future directions in higher education.
Screening of applicants will begin on January 25, 2012. The target start date for this position is July 1, 2012. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications.
