Dr. Troy C. Blanchard received his PhD in Sociology from Louisiana State University in 2001.  After serving as an Assistant Professor at Mississippi State University from 2001-2006, he joined LSU as an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology in 2007.  He was awarded a Special Sworn Status with the U.S. Census Bureau and currently is a researcher with the Chicago Federal Reserve Bank Census Research Data Center.

As a demographer, his research focuses on the influence of population dynamics on aspects of community economic and social development, such as community resilience, migration, health, crime, housing, and civic participation.  Following the oil spill of April 2010, Dr. Blanchard has initiated a variety of research projects of coastal community resilience and population well-being.

He is listed in Marquis Who’s Who in America and was named a LSU Rainmaker for 2009.  He has been awarded research grants from the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Minerals and Management Service, and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.  Blanchard has partnered with both state and local agencies, such as Louisiana Economic Development, the State Demographer, and the Baton Rouge Area Chamber of Commerce, to provide expertise on population projections, estimates, and the analysis of migration trends.  His work has been published in leading social science journals and received coverage from national, statewide, and local media outlets, such as Time Magazine, USA Today, MSNBC, and The Advocate.  Blanchard teaches courses on research design, social inequality, and the sociology of religion.
