Association ActivitiesLSU is a member of the National Association of State Universities & Land Grant Colleges (NASULGC). This association along with the American Association of State Colleges & Universities (AASCU). These organizations serve as the information point to Congress and represent the interests of LSU and its peer universities. The AASCU compiles a tuition comparison of most major public colleges and universities in the United States and its territories. NASULGC conducts and annual survey of its members, and found that for 2005-06, the average tuition rate was $5,691. For the same period, LSU's tuition and fee rate was $4,605. Many colleges used a portion of the money for need-based aid, a practice called tuition discounting. LSU provides little tuition discounting because the Legislature keeps tuition prices low, inhibiting the ability to redirect tuition revenues. Louisiana is considered a "low tuition, high support" state. |
