EE Breadth, Technical and Design Electives

Computer Engineering (EEC) Option   (Electrical Engineering follows below)

Elective courses in computer engineering are intended to achieve the following:

  • Round out the design requirements of the BS degree.  This is accomplished by taking a minimum number of hours of 4xxx-level EE courses designated by the department as having significant (at least 2/3) design content.
  • Allow students to emphasize a particular area in computer engineering by taking courses in that area.

Design Electives

The number of design electives required in electrical engineering varies depending on the student's official catalog. Below is a list of approved design electives for computer engineering majors.

EE 4160# EE 4240* EE 4242 EE 4250* EE 4702 EE 4730 EE 4745 EE 4750 EE 4770 EE 4780 EE 4859

#EE 3160 is a prerequisite for EE 4160

*EE 3232 is a prerequisite to EE 4232 and EE 4250, and credit registration in EE 3232 is required for EE 4240.

Approved Technical Electives

The number of technical electives required in computer engineering varies depending on the student's official catalog. Most recent catalogs require two technical electives. At least one of the two technical electives must be taken from the Group I list.

Group I

Any non-required EE 47xx course, EE 4625 EE 4660, 3610, 3320 or any extra breadth elective

Electrical Engineering (EE) Option

Background

Elective courses in electrical engineering are intended to achieve the following:

  • Round out the design requirements of the BS degree.  This is accomplished by taking a minimum number of hours of 4xxx-level EE courses designated by the department as having significant design content.
  • Allow students to pursue one of the three stated emphasis areas in the catalog, i.e., 1) Electronics, 2) Energy, 3) Systems and Signal Processing 4) Computers. This is accomplished by electing EE courses or courses outside the department that are supportive of the emphasis area.
