There are several resources to assist with personal and professional development of students in the College of Engineering. These resources include the Chevron Center for Engineering Education, Supplemental Instruction in sophomore-level engineering courses, and leadership and outreach opportunities through the Society of Peer Mentors.
The STEP Project at LSU supports freshman and transitional initiatives in the College of Engineering. Some of these initiatives include the Encounter Engineering bridge camp and Transfer Career Day. The main goal of this program is to increase the number of graduates in engineering, construction management, and computer science. It is a formalized support system for students that increases student confidence, provides mentoring to the K-20 population, and develops teamwork and leadership skills for our students. This program is based upon work developed and supported by the National Science Foundation through STEP IA and IB grants (STEM Talent Expansion Program).
