Strategic Goals

The current strategic plan organizes the goals of LSU Computer Science into five areas:

Discovery and Research:

We retain and advance our national and international standing as a premier research institute in strategic state-of-art computer science sub-disciplines by expanding our role in LSU‘s computer science, computing applications, and information technology. Our faculty members are leaders in their field, each group making significant contributions. The related metrics include the tenure-track faculty size, research areas, grants, publications, and PhD students. Our reorganized research structure consists of six major areas or categories:

  • Theoretical foundations
  • Systems and architecture
  • Databases and data analytics
  • Software
  • Computational science
  • Digital media
  • Cyber Security

Learning and Teaching:

Develop and enhance teaching programs and methodologies to collaboratively engage computer science students in leading digital media, computational science, and other computationally-oriented MHIs, minors.

Diversity, Engagement, Economic Development and Outreach:

Increase enrollment and retention among our undergraduate population, including active recruitment both regionally and toward diverse demographics and strategic topics. Recruiting and outreach activities will include proactive engagement with local and regional K-12.

Faculty and Staff:

Grow, build, support, and sustain a productive and diverse faculty and staff that are supported and encouraged in carrying out the educational, research and community aspects of the departmental mission.

Stewardship and Development:

The department will remain invested in the continued success of its alumni and work to maintain support from current corporate sponsors as well as cultivating new avenues for corporate partnerships. The department currently hosts an Industry Advisory Board meeting once a year where local companies discuss their work needs and outline possible collaborations.
