The management of construction has seen dramatic changes and growth in the last few decades and has resulted in increased risk, responsibilities and obligation for the constructor. The Bachelor of Science in Construction Management degree program has a curriculum designed to blend engineering, architecture, design, technology, and business to produce a professional who can manage construction processes effectively and efficiently. CM graduates have industry accepted skills and acquire the much needed knowledge necessary to execute the responsibilities and obligations required for their profession. Graduates taking the Certified Professional Constructor process receive formal recognition of the education and experience that defines the constructor as a professional.
The undergraduate CM degree program has four distinct areas. The first area includes the general education courses required by LSU. These are courses in English, math, natural sciences, social science, art, and humanities. The second area is engineering with courses in theory, design, and application. The third area is business administration with courses in management, accounting, finance, law, and economics. The fourth area comprises of courses specifically designed for construction management majors. These include communication, ethics, graphics, estimating, contract, project planning and scheduling, construction methods, cost control, administration, and project management. It is the only four-year program in the nation that offers industry emphasis areas (IEA) in industrial, highway, commercial, and residential construction. Department Strategic Plan - a new comprehensive plan started 2013 and contains the systematic and sustained efforts to enable the degree program to fulfill its mission. It also provides the internal status of the degree program resources as well as the factors that influence its operations. This strategic plan is updated annually at the end of LSU's fiscal year and represents the collective input from all of our constituencies.
Degree Program Assessment and Implementation Plan
The CM undergraduate degree program is continually monitored for effectiveness in preparing construction practitioners and progression towards the program's mission goals and learning outcomes. Twenty student learning outcomes (SLOs) are measured using the national American Institute of Constructors (AIC) Associate Constructor (AC) Level I Exam, an internal senior comprehensive exit exam, survey results of the graduates, employers of the graduates, exit interviews, and though CM coursework.
