LSU Diversity Grants

Diversity Grants offered by the Office of Diversity (OoD)

OoD is offering faculty, staff and graduate students, financial support to advance “best practices” in diversity awareness and cultural competence at LSU. There are four grant opportunities that we offer:

Lecture/Program Grants Four to six grants of up to $1000.00 each, will be awarded to faculty or administrative program directors who present a request for co-sponsorship of a diversity-focused lecture or co-curricular program or experience. A diversity-focused lecture or co-curricular program or experience is defined and designed to specifically address issues around diversity or cultural awareness for the LSU community. To qualify for these grants, departments should submit a letter of intent that includes: the name of the lecture/event, how the lecture /event/experience furthers the Office of Diversity’s mission of inclusive excellence, requested OoD contribution, scope and anticipated total cost of the event, and purpose for the event. Award recipients will receive notification of the granted amount from the OoD (within 2 weeks of receipt of letter of intent) and will be reimbursed after conference-related receipts have been submitted from your departmental finance coordinator or accountant.

Conference Grants Four grants, up to $500.00 each, will be awarded to faculty or staff members who attend a diversity-focused conference or institute. A diversity-focused conference or institute is defined and designed to specifically address issues around diversity or cultural awareness. For faculty, the conference should not be directly connected to your discipline (i.e. your annual national meeting). To qualify for these grants, departments should submit a letter of intent that includes the: name of the conference, departmental contribution, requested OoD contribution and purpose for attending the conference. Award recipients will receive notification of the granted amount from the OoD (within 2 weeks of receipt of letter of intent) and will be reimbursed after conference-related receipts have been submitted from your departmental travel coordinator or accountant.

Conference or Academic Program Grants for Graduate Students Four grants, up to $500.00 each, will be awarded to graduate students who attend a diversity-focused conference, institute or academic program abroad. A diversity-focused conference or institute or an academic program abroad is defined and designed to specifically address issues around diversity or cultural awareness. To qualify for these grants, students should submit a letter of intent that includes the: name of the conference, departmental contribution, departmental/advisor approval, requested OoD contribution and purpose for attending the conference/program. If the graduate student is presenting, the topic of the presentation, poster session, or panel should be included with the letter of intent. Award recipients will receive notification of the granted amount from the OoD (within 2 weeks of receipt of letter of intent) and will be reimbursed after conference-related receipts have been submitted from your departmental travel coordinator or accountant.

Dialogue on Race Grants The Dialogue on Race offers a 6-week seminar titled, “Dialogue on Race.” These seminars are designed to engage Baton Rouge citizens in a serious discussion on race relations and the importance of open communication and cross-cultural dialogue. The cost of participation for this 6-week seminar is $25. Faculty and staff members interested in participating in a dialogue should contact our office, expressing their willingness to participate. Total enrollment for each 6-week session is limited to 15 people. During each semester, OoD will reimburse the registration fee for the first 15 LSU employees who sign-up and complete the required sessions.
