Counseling and Advising Services

In partnership with the LSU Counselor Education program, OMA is able to provide free, confidential counseling for enrolled undergraduate, graduate and professional students at LSU.  We offer individual and group opportunities.   We understand that students of color, the LGBTQ community, and various underrepresented groups may experience pressure and stress during their collegiate transitional periods.

Group Sessions

We offer two group sessions for the 2016-2017 academic year and we welcome your feedback on how to expand our groups.

  • Intersections is our group designed for students to expression interpersonal, complex identity and transitional issues within the college environment.  Students chose the topics each week to explore.  Topics in the past have ranged from identity challenges, racism in the classroom, homesickness, to experiences of being a person of color at LSU.  Intersections meets Tuesday from 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm in the African American Cultural Center, Room 120M.

  • The Sister to Sister group  provides support for women of color who may be in a leadership role or just leading their way throughout daily life. They meet Tuesday from 6:30 pm- 7:30 pm in the Women’s Center Library.  Participates do not need to hold an executive position in an organization to participate. All are welcome.

Please note that only 10 members are allowed per group and you are welcome to attend both!
