Community Bound
This Volunteer LSU service experience for first-year students is normally on the Saturday before classes begin in the Fall. The program focuses on improving East Baton Rouge Parish public elementary and high schools.
In 2010, Community Bound broke a participation record, with over 600 registered students, faculty and staff. They served at 15 schools completing painting and landscaping projects.
Community Bound began in 2003 when a group of 8 LSU faculty and staff plunged into the community to revitalize several public schools. The “gang of 8” continued to lead the service initiative, each year pulling in more students, faculty and staff. In 2007, Community Bound was first steered by Volunteer LSU. With the help of many other departments, it has become a signature event of LSU.
Those who have contributed to Community Bound’s success include the Honors College, Career Services, Center for Community Engagement Leadership and Involvement, First Year Experience, Greek Life, Community University Partnership and Campus Federal Credit Union.
