Fall Projects
The fall and spring projects are referred to as “large-scale events.” Typically, they have 150-200 participants. The type of project is envisioned by a Special Events Coordinator and is based on needs in the Baton Rouge/LSU community.
Past Fall Projects
Fall into Service 2011—Tigers on the Trail
Location: New Orleans, City Park
Overview: Students will work on restoring trails in the park that were damaged during Hurricane Katrina. More information will follow, after the projec takes placet.
Fall into Service 2010—Marsh Madness
Location: Lake Pontchatrain
Partner: Coalition to Restore Louisiana
Overview: Students learned about coastal erosion, including the effect of disasters like the BP Gulf oil spill. They then helped plant along the coastline as an effort to protect Louisiana’s precious marshland from erosion and potential damage from the oil spill.
Fall into Service 2009—Campus Clean-Up
Location: LSU Campus
Partners: LSU Facility Services, LSU Student Government, LSU Dining
Overview: Students got a glimpse into the work of LSU Facility Services and the impact of debris left behind by LSU football fans on game day. Volunteers picked up trash and listened to a speaker from LSU’s Office of Sustainability & Student Government on the importance of recycling.
Fall into Service 2008—Farr Park Clean-Up
Location: Farr Park, Baton Rouge
Partners: Baton Rouge Recreation & Park Commission (BREC) and Campus Federal Credit Union
Overview: Assisted in hurricane clean-up recovery efforts including picking up debris such as trash and limbs from the park and cleaning and repainting a damaged fence.
