Do you or someone you know need help fixing up your yard or painting your house? Or, do you know an area school or non-profit group that needs help? LSU is currently accepting applications from area residents interested in obtaining volunteers to assist them with completing work at their homes, schools and non-profit groups through the Geaux BIG Baton Rouge service project.
More than 1,000 LSU students, staff and faculty are expected to come together with Baton Rouge residents for the inaugural Geaux BIG Baton Rouge service project on April 20. More than 100 work sites are anticipated for the day, and projects will range from working in yards and painting, to cleaning homes and visiting with the elderly. Volunteers will work to improve homes, schools and non-profit organizations.
Geaux BIG Baton Rouge is a one-day event that seeks to unite LSU students and Baton Rouge residents through service in order to strengthen the university’s relationship with the community. Volunteers will focus on real needs within the city limits by working on projects identified by Baton Rouge residents, in areas including Old South Baton Rouge, Mid-City and North Baton Rouge. Geaux Big Baton Rouge is modeled after “The Big Event” program, which was established in 1982 at Texas A&M University.
Geaux BIG Baton Rouge is a student organization within Campus Life. The mission of Campus Life is to enhance student learning through innovative leadership, service and involvement initiatives that enrich the LSU experience.
