Relocating to LSU and Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge is not only the home of the LSU Tigers, it is also the capital of the State of Louisiana and home to more than 400,000 residents. The City of Baton Rouge is located in East Baton Rouge Parish and is part of the Capital Region, which is composed of eight other surrounding parishes including: Ascension, East Feliciana, Iberville, Livingston, Point Coupee, St. Helena, West Baton Rouge, and West Feliciana.

Upon your appointment as a new faculty member, you will need to begin making your moving arrangements. Listed below are useful links for obtaining additional information (e.g., local and state information, education, and child care) about relocating to the Baton Rouge area.

Local Information
 

Baton Rouge Area Chamber – Provides newcomer’s information including details on housing, child care, transportation, taxes, etc.
City of Baton Rouge – The Official Baton Rouge Government Web site.
The Advocate – Baton Rouge’s major newspaper.
Business Report – Provides information regarding local economic and governmental issues.
Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles – Locations and requirements for registering your vehicle and obtaining a Louisiana driver’s license.

Louisiana Department of Insurance – The “Consumer Coverage Lookup” enables you to search for local insurance providers.
Council for a Better Louisiana (CABL) – A non-profit organization that provides useful information on governmental issues including a “Fact Book” on the state’s economy, education system, environment, etc.
Public Affairs Research Council (PAR) -- A non-profit organization that serves as a source of information on state and local government issues.

Louisiana Department of Education – Provides a listing of public and non-public schools statewide and school and district accountability information including public school report cards.
