LSU Host On-Demand Client Install
Host On-Demand (HoD) is a Java application that provides connectivity to a TN3270 server. Installing this HoD client will allow the user to connect to TPX, IMS and TSO on the LSU Enterprise Server.
**Note 1 - Sun Java 1.3.1 or later is required for this client
**Note 2 - For the initial install of this client, Popups must be allowed for 130.39.253.200 (lsumvs.sncc.lsu.edu)
**Note 3 - If you have a firewall installed, this client will require outbound ports 5023 and 8999
To test the requirements for Notes 1-2 and more information on Note 3 please visit the HoD Test Page
The first execution of HoD will cause the client to be downloaded and installed in the Java cache. Subsequent executions will not cause a download of the client unless updated code is available.
Additional information:
Installation Help (Preferred)
Clicking on the "Click Here to Run HoD" link above will launch the download and install of the Java Web Start version of the HoD client if it is not already installed on your system. Below are some steps you should expect:
1) There will be prompts to grant access to allow the code to be installed on your machine. These prompts should state that the code is from International Business Machines Corporation. You must allow these permissions for the client to install properly.
2) After the security prompts have been answered, there will be a prompt asking if a desktop icon should be created ("Desktop Integration"). If you would like an icon on your desktop to start the LSUMVS session the click YES. If you click NO, you may create the icon later via your Java Web Start Application Manager utility.
3) The install process will automatically run. Depending on your network connection, this initial download may take up to a few minutes.
4) The "configured sessions" window will open automatically when the install is completed. This will immediately be followed by the automatic opening of the logon session to the LSU system.
5) This download process is only needed on the initial install of the product. Subsequent executions can be made by clicking on the icon created in the install process, the manually created icon or by visiting this page again and clicking on the "Click Here to Run HoD".

Installing a browser only version of the client
These instructions are for installing the browser only version of HoD. The Java Web Start version above is the preferred client. If for some reason, your machine cannot support the HoD Java Web Start client, then the browser only version may be needed. For instance, if you are running a Java other then Sun's java 1.3.1 or later, the browser only version may be required.
When you click on the link below for the first time, javascript on the page will determine that you do not have the HoD client installed on your machine. A download process will be invoked to automatically download the client into your browser's nonvolatile cache. The Steps below are what you should expect:
Click here to run the browser only version
1) There will be yes/grant responses required for you to allow the code to be installed on your machine. Answering no to any of these prompts will cause the install of the HoD client to fail. Each of these security alerts should identify the code as coming from IBM (International Business Machines Corporation).
2) After the security prompts have been answered, the client should be downloaded to your machine. The time required for this download will depend on your connection speed.
3) Once the download has finished, the install will quickly run. In most cases the client will immediately start a session to LSUMVS. Some browser / Java combinations require the browser to be closed and reopened after the first install. If this is the case then continue to step 4. Otherwise you should have a session connected with LSUMVS where you can logon to TPX, IMS or TSO.
4) After restarting your browser, go back to the same "Click here to run the browser only version" link that you used to install the client. This time the client will just launch. You may again get a security prompt as the client is opened. If you tell the browser to remember the decision to allow THIS security prompt you won't get it again.
5) The client should start (without downloading anything else from the server) and automatically start a connection to lsumvs.sncc.lsu.edu

What if 3270 session closes unexpectedly?
If the browser based version of the client is installed, it is dependent on the web browser. If the browser closes or crashes then the HoD session will also end. It is recommended to run the default Java Web Start client to avoid this issue. Using the "Click Here to Install HoD" link at the top of the page will install the preferred Java Web Start client and not the browser based client.
With either the browser based version or the default web start version of the client, two windows will open by default. The first is a "configured sessions" window. This window must be left open while using HoD. The second window to open will be the actual session to the LSU host. If the "configured sessions" is closed, any sessions currently started to the LSU host will also close.

Changing Settings
Keyboard settings, screen colors, and display attributes can be customized. To change these settings, it is recommended that you start the client and change the settings you wish. Close the client and restart to see that your changes have been kept.
The settings can be found in the session connected to the LSU host by clicking on Edit - Preference and then the object you want to change such as Colyar, Display or Keyboard.
