FY10-11: Instructor Message
Universities across the state have incurred a number of budget cuts over the course of the last year and LSU is preparing for another possible reduction in the coming months. Hopefully additional cuts will not occur, but we must be prepared if they do.
In order to provide the best LSU experience for students given the resources available to us should we incur further budget cuts, we must have maximum flexibility to address the size of our workforce at LSU. Therefore, we have notified some of our instructors that their contracts will not be renewed upon their expiration.
This action has been taken only in anticipation of further budget cuts to Louisiana’s institutions of higher education for the 2010-11 and 2011-12 academic years, and it has been done to enable us to better manage our funds at LSU as determined by a reduced budget.
We are also taking other measures to ensure that LSU remains strong in this difficult economic environment.
We are prepared to make LSU a leader in re-inventing higher education in this state. LSU will emerge from these economic challenges strong in its mission to graduate productive citizens who will make an impact on our state and our nation.
Michael Martin
Chancellor, LSU
