Louisiana State University’s top priority has been, and continues to be, giving students all of the necessary tools to succeed in the workforce after their college career is finished. Whether it is first-class instruction from some of the country’s finest faculty or opportunities to showcase one’s talents outside of the classroom on real-world issues, LSU strives to prepare its students for all future endeavors.

Along with that comes the competition for top-level jobs around the country. No longer is it enough to be prepared, graduates must have something that sets them apart from their peers in the eyes of future employers. LSU recognizes this and has begun work on a bold new project known as the Modern Chinese Business and Culture program.

Why China

In this program, students will be able to incorporate their planned major into a program that allows them to learn more about the language, culture, and commerce of 21st century China. With a population of more than 1.3 billion and an economy growing at more than 7 percent annually, China is emerging as a world leader and consequently provides a unique perspective to students preparing for life after college.

This program, open to qualified LSU undergraduate and MBA students, offers an array of opportunities to participants.

Discovery Tour

While in China, students will embark on a Discovery Tour that includes visits to Beijing, Xian, Chongqing, and Shanghai, as well as major points of interest such as the Forbidden City, Great Wall, Terra Cotta Warriors, Yangtze River, Three Gorges Dam, and the Bund.

The tour also includes visits Tongji University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, and multinational corporations such as General Electric, eBay, Business Week, Stone & Webster, and the Port of Shanghai.

Language Institute

Another aspect of the program is a three-week Chinese language institute at Fudan University in Shanghai where students will earn LSU credit hours. The program includes daily morning lessons in introductory Mandarin language, several afternoon lectures each week that address specific topics related to Chinese culture, and an exam that will be administered at the end of the course to measure student achievement.
